AJU Makes ABC News

AJU Makes ABC News AJU made ABC News on June 8th, with it’s innovative new service learning program – Helping Hands Gardens. The project is part of the Service Learning Class required by all graduates of the College of Arts and Sciences.

Under the direction of Gabe Goldman, AJU’s Director of Experiential Education, Helping Hands Gardens plans to develop organic garden plots throughout communities in Los Angeles and Ventura Counties. [

A Day to Remember

AJU’S 59th COMMENCEMENT Joy filled the air as the graduates of the College of Arts and Sciences, David Lieber School of Graduate Studies, William and Freda Fingerhut School of Education, and the Ziegler School of Rabbinic Studies participated in the 59th annual commencement exercises, held Sunday, May 17th at the Familian Campus.

The ceremony was presided over by AJU’s Chairman of the Board, Jeffrey Glassman, and student speeches were given by Lauren Silver for the College of Arts and Sciences and Rinat Hadad Siegel for the Fingerhut School of Education. Holly Lyons and Steve Stoker welcomed guests and led the procession along with Daniel Touserkani and Sarah Cohen. . [

Ziegler School of Rabbinic Studies, Class of 2009 OrdainedIn a beautiful and moving ceremony at Sinai Temple in Los Angeles, on May 18th, the Ziegler School of Rabbinic Studies held their ordination services. These twelve new rabbis each begin a new and exciting journey: Aviva Berg, David Caplan Bluman, Shai Cherry, Steven Edelman-Blank, Benjamin Katz, Rachel Mara Kobrin, Laurie Matzkin, Chaya Elizabeth Oliver, Penina Zahava Podwol, Moshe Smolkin, Adam Frank Stein and Elana Ann Zelony. Benjamin Katz was selected by his fellow ordinates to teach a Torah portion. He selected Sefat Emet on Par’shat Ekev (1896). [
