MIRIYAM GLAZER, a popular speaker, eclectic scholar, and award-winning teacher who has served as a visiting lecturer throughout the United States, northern Europe, and Israel, is Professor of Literature and Chair of the Communication Arts department at the American Jewish University, where she has taught for 20 years. Her areas of expertise include Jewish Literature – Israeli and American; Jewish women writers; Jewish spirituality – particularly in relationship to Torah, Prayer, and the Psalms, and Jewish festival foods – their lore, and their lure!

Her newest book, Psalms of the Jewish Liturgy: A Guide to their Beauty, Power & Meaning...a new translation and commentary in memory of David L. Lieber, was published in 2009 and is available from amazon.com.

In addition to teaching at the American Jewish University, Dr. Glazer leads private Torah Study groups and lessons in Judaism for those interested in conversion. She has served as Visiting Rabbi at the Malibu Jewish Center and on the Educational Committee of the International Council of Jewish Women, and now serves on the Executive Committee of the Board of Rabbis, the Board of Directors of the Jewish Women’s Theatre, the Editorial Committee of Women and Judaism, and the Publications Committee of the Rabbinical Assembly. She has been a Visiting Scholar at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem and at the University of Southern California’s Center on Gender, and won a Hadassah-Brandeis Institute Award in 2006 for work on her memoirs.

Before joining the faculty of the AJU, Dr. Glazer was Senior Lecturer & head of the Foreign Literatures Department at Ben Gurion University of the Negev. She is married to Rabbi Anthony Elman and the mother of Avigail Schotz, a television producer.
